The following are the guidelines for completing the case analysis for Levendary Café:

1.       Read the case carefully to gain a good understanding of the case and all the issues facing

2.       Identify and Discuss the Environmental Factors (Political, Legal, and Technical) that exist in China and have an impact of how business is conducted in China compared to how it is conducted in the United States.  Focus on the ones that specifically affect the business that Levendary Café is in.  What are these factors and how specifically do they affect Levendary Café’s business in China.

3.       Identify the Economic and Demographic factors that exist in China and discuss how they affect Levendary Cafés business in China.

4.       Identify and discuss the Cultural Differences that exist between the U.S. and China, and explain how they affect doing business in China for Levendary Café.

5.       Identify differences in Ethical practices and values between the U.S. and China and explain how these difference affect doing business in China. Focus on those differences that affect the business that Levendary Café is in.

6.       Using Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions, compare the U.S. with China and explain how the differences would affect doing business in China for Levendary Café.

7.       Based on the Cultural differences between the U.S. and China and the Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions analysis, what is the most effective way for Levendary Café to manage its China operations?

8.       What is the best way for Levendary Café to Structure its China operations ((wholly owned subsidiary, joint venture, or franchise)?

9.       Based on the cultural, environmental, economic factors, what is the best type of Motivation and Compensation system for Levendary Café to use in China?

10.   Review the Financial data presented in the case and comment on the differences in cost structures between the U.S. operations and the China operations (food and paper costs, labor, occupancy, Depreciation and Amortization, G&A, Marketing, and net income). Based on the analysis what actions does Levendary Café in China have to do to become profitable?

11.   Based on all of the above analyses, what actions need to be taken by Mia Foster and the management team to assure that Levendary Café has profitable operations in China? Should they continue to expand their China operations?

Prepare a paper covering the above analysis and information and addressing the issues facing Levendary Café in China. The paper is to be written in APA writing style format and have at least three outside references besides the textbook.

 

 

 

The paper should contain the following:

1.       Introduction: the purpose of the paper and what process you will use in the analysis

2.       Case Summary: a brief summary of the key points of the case

3.       Environmental Analysis:  environmental factors that affect doing business in China

4.       Economic and Demographic Analysis: economic and demographic factors that affect doing business in China

5.        Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions Analysis: comparison between U.S. and China and what it means for doing business in China

6.       Financial Analysis: analysis of financial results and comparative cost structures between the U.S. and China and conclusions

7.       Recommendations: based on the above analysis what should Levendary Café management (Mia Foster and executive team) do?  Recommendations should include: How the China operations should be managed; based on cultural and economic differences, how should Levendary Café handle its product offering (adapt to local culture or have a standard offering based on U.S. standards); what is the best way to structure the China operations; what is the best compensation system to use in China; what business practices should Levendary Café follow in China based on the ethical differences; what actions need to be taken to make the China operation profitable; should Louis Chen continue to manage the China operation? All recommendations need to be supported by facts from the analysis.

8.       Summary: a brief summary of the key points of the paper including analysis, conclusions and recommendations.
