Project #48593 - Insurance and Lifestyle Choice

How much does personal responsibility play a role in diseases? A patient with alcoholism received a liver transplant due to the destruction of his liver. This patient does extremely well and has been sober for 5 years. He experiences an extreme personal tragedy, relapses, and damages his new liver.

In a short essay of 250-300 words, answer the following questions:

  1. How are decisions made concerning who will receive an organ?
  2. Should this patient with alcoholism, which is considered a disease, be eligible to receive another transplant?
  3. What are the ethical and moral implications in this case?
  4. Should the cost of the transplant affect this patient’s ability to receive one?
  5. Should this patient be required to pay a greater share of the transplant cost because of lifestyle choices, to help control the overall cost of health care?

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
