It is understood that a two-page essay means two pages in a font such as Times Roman, 12 point, double-spaced. In your papers, you should make reference not only to particular scenes, but in most cases, you should also cite particular lines from the play. In all cases, you want be sure and document your work. Assignments 1 and 2 require no use of secondary materials. Assignment 3 (the third short paper) and Assignment 4 (the research paper) do require use of secondary sources of a scholarly nature.

Assignment 4 (Ten-page length) [Due in Week Five]

Your research paper should have a minimum of 5 but not more than 8 secondary, scholarly sources obtained through academic databases of the university. You will, of course, also need a title page and a reference page along with an abstract. Your paper should follow the required system of documentation used at your university. Remember that whenever you use a scholar's words or ideas, they must be documented in your paper; otherwise, you are plagiarizing material. Do be sure to document your references to the play(s) as well. While you will need to clear your paper topic with your instructor/facilitator, let me suggest some acceptable approaches:
1. A father/daughter relationship in one Shakespeare play
2. A father/son or mother/son relationship in one Shakespeare play
3. The role of magic in A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest
4. The role of the play-within-the-play to the main play in A Midsummer Night's Dream
5. The making of a good leader in one Shakespearean play
6. The failure of leadership in one Shakespearean play
7. The roles that a particular character serves in a play (e.g, Iago, Kent, Bottom, York, Ariel)
8. The treatment of women in two plays (A Midsummer Night's Dream vs. The Tempest; A Midsummer Night's Dream vs. King Lear; Richard II vs. Othello)
9. A character study (Iago, Othello, King Lear, Edmund, Hermia, Helena, Richard II, Henry Bolingbroke, Miranda, Prospero)
10. Importance of setting to meaning (A Midsummer Night's Dream; Othello; The Tempest)

I have to use my school's library resources. Let me know what you need to get to my school libray resources.
