  1. Suppose you are called to jury duty on a capital murder case where the death penalty may be considered as a sentencing option. During the jury selection process, the attorneys ask if you would be able to consider the death penalty. How would you respond and what would be your moral rationale?
  2. In your opinion, what is the moral rationale that permits some U.S. states to carry out death penalty sentences while other states have a moratorium or ban the death penalty?
  3. From a global perspective, how is the death penalty either practiced or banned in other countries? Give at least one example with a citation that illustrates your response.

 

1a. Do you believe that using race in such decisions is a justifiable law enforcement tactic or is it unjust discrimination? Provide an example and a citation for at least one additional case that you have researched in your response.

2a. Using the principle of equality, discuss the social benefits and harms that relate to the case that you cited in your response.
