Note: The following problems are presented to help you focus on some important concepts. Others that that relate to Chapters 1- 9 could be included on E2. Note the emphasis will be on the sections in Chapters 7 through 9 and 10.1-10.3.
For problems A, B and C, use Excel and/or Minitab.

A. Table 3 gives the starting salary of a random sample of 1999 college graduates from the University.

1. Construct a histogram and one more appropriate graph. [Chapter 1]

2. Describe the data using appropriate descriptive statistics (mean, median, mode, range, standard

deviation, lower and upper quartiles). [Chapter 2]

3. Write a paragraph or so to completely describe the starting salaries of these grads. Include a statement

about the salary that the new grads should they expect (based on this information.)

4. Construct a 95% confidence interval estimate of the mean salary. What is the point estimate? What is

the margin of error? . [Section 8.5 on page 298]

5. Interpret the confidence interval estimate that you found in #4.

6. Last year the mean starting salary was \$23,900. Do an appropriate hypothesis test (at the α = .05 level of significance) to determine if it has changed. [Section 9.3 on page 341]

B. There could be a problem that is like the following one from Chapter 3; it was also on E1. Review the problem from E1, and review the following problem that was presented in the E1 Review.

For Table 6: The physical layout of a warehouse must be carefully designed to prevent vehicle congestion and optimize response time. (The layout assumes that vehicles do not block each other when they travel within.) Warehouse operations were simulated; the number of vehicles was varied and the congestion time was recorded. The researchers wanted to investigate the relationship between congestion time and number of vehicles.

1. Construct a scatterplot for the data. Is there a linear relationship between the number of vehicles and the congestion time?

2. What is the equation of the straight line? Identify the slope? Is it positive or negative? Interpret.

3. What is the coefficient of determination? The correlation coefficient? Interpret.

4. Predict the congestion time for 16 vehicles.

C. Table 7 gives the tuition charged (x \$1000) at a sample of 30 prep schools in the northeast and a sample of 30 prep schools in the southwest.

1. Use descriptive measures to describe both of the data sets using appropriate descriptive statistics (mean, median, mode, range, standard deviation, lower and upper quartiles). [Chapter 2]

2. Construct a 95% confidence interval estimate of the differences in mean tuition. [Section 8.6]

3. Interpret the confidence interval estimate.

D. Review the following problems and examples from your homework and text.

Problems: 6.17 (use Table 3 in your book), 7.13b, 7.26, 8.31 & 8.33, Example 8.10, Example 9.5, Example 10.4, and problem 10.9.
