Extra Credit Performance Task

A Funeral Speech

If you were invited to speak at one of the characters funeral, what would you say?

A funeral speech or eulogy cites the good qualities of the deceased, often through anecdotes and reminiscences.

Think: What admirable qualities did the character possess, and what were the flaws? What motivated their actions?

Directions: Create a funeral speech for one of the following characters: Hamlet, Claudius Ophelia, Polonius, Gertrude, Laertes, or Rosencrantz/Guildenstern.  Your speech should reflect thoughtful analysis of the character, motivations, and actions, and should include language appropriate for a somber occasion. Address the events that led up to their death. Sum up your conclusion about the character in a way that fits the occasion.

Format:

The speech must: meet the following criteria:

·        Typed, double-spaced, & 12 point font.

·        1 original anecdote or reminiscences

·        20  lines of rhyming couplets

·        2 specific actions

·        2 specific flaws
