Chapter 3 introduces you to the importance of history and geography as major forces in how a culture develops. As you read the material, you should pay particular attention the following ideas:

  • How history and geography affect cultural development

  • The importance of population trends globally and within cultures

Chapter 4 will continue our introduction into culture by looking at the elements of culture cultural change that occurs in every society. The major topics for consideration in this chapter are:

  • How cultures originate and are defined

  • The different elements that are benchmarks of culture

  • The fact that culture is always changing and how those changes take place
