1. Discuss the impact that government regulations and legislation plays in matters of employee benefits.

2. Discuss the differences between legally required benefits, and discretionary benefits. Include in your discussion the impact of Employer-Sponsored retirement and healthcare plans.

3. Many compensation professionals are faced with making choices about which discretionary benefits to drop because funds are limited, and the costs of these benefits continually increase. Assume you must make such choices. Rank order discretionary benefits, starting with the ones you would least likely drop. Explain your rationale. Do such factors as demographic composition of the workforce of the company matter? Explain.

4. Explain three types of Executive Compensation.

5. Discuss and explain the challenges when determining compensation and benefits for flexible and/or contingent employees. Include in your discussion the advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting.

6. Discuss the concept of total compensation, how compensation and benefit systems are used by organizations to attract and retain qualified, skilled employees. Include future challenges relating to compensating the flexible workforce.
