Project #53192 - Research Paper: Exploring Antebellum America, 1820-1860

Scenario

Create the identity of a white, Protestant, southern, slaveholding male who is exploring his native land in an attempt to define what American life is like during the Antebellum Era (1820-1860).  As you travel across the USA, keep a diary that tracks your travels and explains your interactions with selected people.  Your character's identity SHOULD affect the way that he evaluates the people he meets.  Remember not to meet multiple people at the same time.  The timing should make sense and allow for time to travel from one place to another.

People you will be meeting

Alexis de Tocqueville (Use at least 1 book/e-book and 1 scholarly article as a source)

Black Hawk or Ma-Ka-Tai-Mei-She-Kia-Kiak  (Use at least 1 book/e-book and 1 scholarly article as a source)

John L O'Sullivan (Use at least 2 scholarly articles as a source)

Samuel Morse (Use at least 2 scholarly articles as a source)

Roughly 2 pages per person, 1 inch margins, Times New Roman 12, double spaced.  Don't write too much more or too much less.

Diary Entry Requirements

a. where you meet your selected person,

b.  under what circumstances you met them, noting what "current" events are shaping your lives,

c.  why the person with whom you are meeting is of historical importance, and

d.  a REAL quotation from the person that encapsulates his or her major ideas

Bibliography

Use Chicago Manual of Style.  At least 1 footnote for each source.  Must have both footnotes (not endnotes) AND bibliography.
