Unit 10 World Wars I and II

Objectives 

1. to learn about and understand the nature of modern warfare, technological developments that changed warfare, the physical and emotional impact of fighting modern wars

2. to understand how WWI and WWII shaped US and world history (important historical developments that came from each)

3. to learn about the origins of these wars, who was involved, and the position the United States initially took when these wars broke out and why

4. to understand when the United States eventually entered these wars and why, how US Presidents Wilson and FDR justified US involvement in these wars

5. to study how our involvment in WWI and WWII affected US foreign policy and international status

6. to understand the HOMEFRONT (War Production Board, Rosie, etc): how it involved and affected Americans during and as a result of the wars

7. to study how WWI and WWII advanced or suspended civil rights for and of women, Blacks, and Japanese Americans

8. to learn about how both wars ended (Treaty of Versailles, the Atomic Bomb), which nations were blamed, impact of each war on future events

9. to learn about American culture during WWII (Big Band and swing)

10. to learn the where the important geographic sites of the wars are and why each is historically significant

11. to understand the relationships of the GI Bill & the Babyboom to WWII
