Project #54434 - Airport Security Coordinator

Introduction

The airport operator is responsible to designate one or more airport security coordinators to assist in securing the airport. The airport security coordinator plays a significant role in ensuring that the airport maintains compliance with the federal regulations by drafting and enforcing the Airport Security Program (ASP). It is important for you to understand the elements of an ASP and what implications they have for an airport security coordinator. In this assignment you will have the opportunity consider how an airport security coordinator, or an airport operator, might implement the requirements outlined in the ASP. Examining an authentic ASP may prove to be difficult because of the sensitive security information (SSI) it contains; hence, in this assignment you will use the Department of Homeland Security's Guidelines for airport security - the same guidelines that are used to assist in drafting an ASP - to determine the actions that should be taken to secure the airport.

Instructions

Complete this assignment by doing the following:

  1. Read or refer to as needed pages 13-82 in Recommended Security Guidelines for Airport Planning, Design and Construction.
  2. Write a 2-4 page paper addressing the following that must be considered by the airport operator or airport security coordinator:

    • What are some aspects to examine when determining potential vulnerabilities at airports?
    • What are some important considerations when assessing boundaries and access points at airports?
    • Identify at least three facilities that may be present on an airport. Explain and detail how these facilities have different security concerns when considering their locations on the airport.
    • Outline some of the key elements of airside features that should be considered when designing or modifying airside facilities.
    • Outline some of the key elements of landside features that should be considered when designing or modifying landside facilities.
    • Outline some of the key elements of terminal features that should be considered when designing or modifying terminal facilities.
  3. Your paper should be in APA format, double-spaced, 12-pt. font, 1-inch margins. Be sure to cite your sources! Use the following headings to guide your reader:

    • Introduction
