Project #54612 - Fake recommendation Letter

You have been asked by the CEO of your company to hire a project coordinator who will provide administrative support for a project consisting of several teams of engineers, accountants and marketing managers. You need a well-organized individual who is sufficiently flexible to maintain calm and keep everyone on track. Please utilize the link in number 2. (400-600 Words minimum)

1. While the end product is an individual assignment, you can be as creative as you wish in tackling this assignment. You are expected to discuss the assignment to familiarize yourself with your classmates and to develop a strategy in class.

2. You should also visit a suggested website devoted to the interview: http://www.job-interview.net/

A. For yourself only, write a list of requirements for the position and conduct an interview after pairing up with another member in the class. You can play roles and be as evasive as you wish.

B. Based on the interview, write a recommendation letter for the individual you interviewed addressed to the CEO of your company.

The letter should be no less than 400 but no more than 600 words and/or sufficiently specific for the decision maker to make a decision. Do not simply rehash or summarize the interview, but make a convincing case for hiring the individual.

GENERAL TIPS: Letters of Recommendation

Note that the interview gathers information. You are not summarizing or taking minutes.

Letters of recommendation are persuasive messages and could follow the AIDA model: Attention, Interest, Desire and Action

Consider the following style tips to make your letter persuasive:

* By being superficial, sticking to canned descriptions, or resigning yourself to formalities, you will give the impression that the person you are recommending is not very interesting, suitable or accomplished.

* Make sure that your letter shows first hand knowledge of the person you are recommending, and establishes a relationship, implicitly demonstrating your competence to assess the candidate.

* Consider that the individual or selection committee reading such letters gets numerous praise letters, so an effective letter of recommendation ought to make the individual stand out. Emphasize uniqueness.

* Don’t just tell, show. Illustrate accomplishments, qualities, commitment, willingness to perform arduous tasks or to work with others, or intellectual acumen and knowledge.

* Avoid over-praising (insincere intensifiers) and excessive rhetoric. Don’t assume your audience to be taken in by words anymore than you would be. Most of us are quite capable to read through words; and laudatory praise or judgment, which is not supported by facts or illustrated, is hard to swallow. A letter is more credible when its author seems professional and competent.

* If you want your letter to count, provide your reader with specifics, with measurable and quantifiable qualities, with facts, which can be verified, with access to hands-on experience.

* Avoid trite language, unnecessarily elevated, distorted or unoriginal diction, jargon and canned expressions, (i.e., If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call).

* Remember that your letter should no only show that the person has done a good job in his or her current position but is capable of assuming new responsibilities, or is uniquely fit for the new position.

* Relevance is very important. You might consider the individual leadership or crisis management skills, but most importantly, you want your reader to visualize the applicant as already in the new job.
