What are some of the arguments against immigration and against particular groups of immigrants? Develop  one of those arguments and formulate your own response to those claims.

3. THEN please comment on this respond of others of the from the   following questions above:

There were several arguments against immigrants such as Asian immigrants that were considered harder to assimilate into the society because they were unable to adapt to the customs or institutions. America also claimed that the Asian immigrants possessed unwanted traits that they wanted to exclude from being brought into the community. America was also concerned when immigrant from the Third World immigrated to the US because they believed that they would become a threat to the intellectual life, art and music of America (11). The most common complaint was that immigrants displaced American blacks from jobs. Even today, the issue of Americans losing jobs to immigrants is still a major concern for the blacks and whites today. The reason why blacks had such a hard time accepting and welcoming immigrants is the fact that they resent the fact that immigrants are granted the rights and privileges that were formerly denied to blacks (14).

Although immigrants may seem to pose a threat in the eyes of the “Native-born eyes”, I don’t think they realize how immigrants play an important role in the society. Through more immigrants entering the US, there are more jobs that are being created and they also help contribute the economic growth. I can understand how the African Americans feel some resentment towards the immigrants for them to automatically receive the privileges and rights that they had to work hard and fight for. However, I think it’s a matter of time to accept and welcome immigration. We must not only accept the immigrants themselves, but also welcome their culture and traditions. I know that Americans wanted to exclude some of the immigrants because they felt that their customs and values didn’t coincide with their own, yet culture is something that every individual holds close to their heart. I believe that we can all learn to live in unison, especially now that America is a mixture of people from all over the world.
