Project #56175 - Non verbal communication

This Weeks Readings

1. Nonverbal Communication: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Survey_of_Communication_Study/Chapter_3_-_Nonverbal_Communication (Links to an external site.)

2. Interviewing Across Cultures: http://www.fordschool.umich.edu/downloads/InterviewCrossCultures.pdf (Links to an external site.)

3. Territoriality: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territoriality_(nonverbal_communication) (Links to an external site.)

Research and cite an article on an area of nonverbal communication that interested you this week.  Compare and contrast the article’s findings to that of your reading. Then use specific examples to reflect on how this area of nonverbal communication impacted your life.  Lastly, how will you integrate this new knowledge (what will you change) into your life to become a more effective communicator.

Each reflection should be 3-6 paragraphs in length (1-2 paragraphs for each question).  The first question asks you to compare and contrast the weekly reading to an article of your choice.  You will need to provide at least 3 specific similarities and 3 specific differences between the weekly reading and the article.  For the second question provide several examples to illustrate how this concept has impacted your life.  Finally, the third question asks you to discuss how you will integrate the concept into your life to be a more competent communicator. Use APA style when citing the article.

You may pick an article of your choice to compart and contrast with the weekly readings above.

And answer the following questions 1.) If you were going for a job interview tomorrow, which nonverbal behaviors would you be most aware of? Discuss why each of these behaviors is significant to be aware of. How would this change if you were interviewing in another culture (you may pick one in the article)? What three non-verbals would you have to keep in mind and why? Refer to the article for ideas. Interviewing in across cultures: http://www.fordschool.umich.edu/downloads/InterviewCrossCultures.pdf (Links to an external site.) 2.) Think of an example where you used an ineffective nonverbal. Maybe you pointed the wrong way, rolled your eyes in a conversation, came in late for a meeting, etc. What could you have done differently to make the communication more effective, both in the setting and in future conversations? Analyze how the ineffective nonverbal impacted that conversation (what happened because of it) and how it could affect future conversations with that person. Remember communication is fluid and dynamic and each communication instant builds on another and continues to shape the relationship.
