Project #56639 - Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy

F.  Explain how bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) occurs at a molecular level by doing the following:

1.  Explain the role of protein misfolding and aggregation in BSE, including the following points:

•  the name of the protein that is misfolding

•  why the protein is misfolding

•  why there is aggregation

•  what structures the aggregated proteins form

•  how this process leads to the symptoms of BSE

A description of the aggregate structure is not evident. An explanation of why the misfolded proteins aggregate cannot be located.

3.  Explain the role of the chaperone protein in BSE, including the following points:

•  how chaperones normally act in the cell

•  the name of the specific protein that acts as a chaperone in BSE

•  how the protein that acts as a chaperone is different from typical chaperone proteins

Identification of the specific protein that acts as a chaperone in BSE and an explanation of how the protein that acts as a chaperone in BSE is different from typical chaperone proteins are not evident.

***********************************************The directions from the essay instructions are listed above, this is a revision, only the two parts listed above need revised.

Also... the information underneath in red is the instructor's revision comments.  Those are the specifics within  the two questions that I need help with answering.
