Project #56786 - CH2M Hill Case Study

How to Write a Case Analysis

When creating your analysis of the cases, it is important to remember that each set of cases has a theme, or primary question to be answer or problem to be solved.  Each case may cover several of the topics that we will be covering in class, but remember when you are writing up your case analyses, be sure to focus on the central issues of the case.   Each case should be double-spaced with reasonable margins and fonts and page numbers.  Include figures to support discussions points if applicable.  Often these analyses contain information gleaned from outside sources (e.g.the Internet), which you would include in Section 6.  Also, you should look for some references from reliable sources, such as academic journals...this will impress me and help your grade. You are masters students so I expect masters-quality work.  Make sure the paper your submit to me is of the same quality as a paper you would submit to your boss.

Section 3

What decision would you make and WHY.(3 pages MAX)

Section 4

List the key “take-aways” you gleaned from the case.  These are key points that you would want your listener to remember from the case.  Be specific as possible.  Help the reader understand where the take-aways come from. There are probably four or five take aways in each case.  A take away is not the same as an integrative element.  Instead, think of it this way.  If you were stuck in an elevator with your boss, think of a take away that would answer the question, “So, what are you learning in that fancy MBA program? (5 pages MAX for Team…2 pages for Individual)

Section 5

(Team Case Analysis ONLY)

Integration:  Find four to six points of interest in the case around which the integration will focus.  These points are common elements found in multiple cases.  For example, although the Skills for Tomorrow we are focusing on conflict, there is still a big part pertaining to organizational culture. Each of the common elements should be discussed using examples from the other cases THAT ARE IN YOUR COURSE PACKET or have been discussed in class.  Be sure to tell me in reasonable detail how the integration related.  Don’t simply say “This is similar to the experiences of CH2M Hill”.  The better you integrate, the better your grade.  In addition to the cases from the class, you may also use integration examples from other companies. (5-8 pages)

Section 6

Supporting materials.  You may have found supporting materials from outside sources (hopefully other than just the Internet).  When you include these, be sure to include their source (or citation).  If found on the Internet, provide the URL.  If you take exact wording from a source be sure to use quotations.  Try to paraphrase as much as possible instead of using large sections of material you found in other sources.
