1.Mitosis and Meiosis are very similar yet very different processes. They both are involving the reproduction of cells for a greater cause, whether it is to heal a wound or to create a child.

Mitosis:

happens with all cells

results in 2 daughter cells that are exact replicas of the parent cells

DNA strands stay the same as this is an asexual process to heal or grow

chromosomes line up 1 by 1 in metaphase

Meiosis:

only happens with reproductive cells

results in 4 daughter haploid cells that are very different from parent cells

in metaphase I homologous pairs line up 2 by 2

crossing over is possible

 

2.imilarities of Mitosis and Meiosis:

  1. They both occur in humans, plants, and animals
  2. They both involve division of a cell
  3. They both have genetic material
  4. They both are preceded by Interphase, where DNA replication takes place
  5. They both go through Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase
