Click on the provided link and view the Life Raft Debate. You may watch the entire video; however, watching the first 28 minutes will allow you to complete the homework described below.
Before you start watching, here is some context:
The world has come to an end. A handful of people, making up the audience for this debate, is about to set sail and go rebuild society from the ground up. Their life raft only has one spot left, for which a group of professors will compete in this debate. To win the last seat on the raft, they will have to demonstrate that his/her discipline is indispensable to the (re)construction and growth of the new society.
Listen to each professor’s argument (see list below), and decide which one you would take along on the life raft. Write a short paragraph (200 words) in which you explain your choice and post it to the discussion board (click on the Discussion link at the top of the homepage).
1. Mason Peck, mechanical and aerospace engineering
2. Rachana Kamtekar, philosophy
3. Durba Ghosh, history
4. David Levitsky, nutritional sciences
