Mass of Muon= 105.6592467 MeV/(c^2). Muons are produced by cosmic rays that collide with nuclei of Oxygen and Nitrogen. A muon however rapidly decays into energetic electron , existing from its point of view for only 2.2x10e-6 seconds.Cosmic-ray generated muons typically have speed of about 0.998c and should travel only a few hundred meters in the air only before decaying , BUT in reality they travel several kilometers in the air. Using the result of special relativity, explain how this is possible.

HINT: consider the atmospheric travel distance as it appears to a muon, and the muon lifetime as it appears to an observer on the earth's surface.
