application project for this class. This can be any application you choose provided it relates to the course material. If you are stuck for ideas, find a suitable "word problem" and start there. As I have mentioned, the project should have at least these parts --
>> An introduction that states the problems and gives some background into it
State the problem and give some background (why you find it interesting as well as defining terms, variables, and the parameters of the problem.)
>> An analysis of the problem -- basically a "by hand" solution and the theory behind it.
Solve the problem showing your solution methods. Can you find a closed form solution or must you use some numerical method (Taylor series, numerical integration, etc.) to find an approximate solution.
>> Apply an application of some tool like Matlab or Mathematica (or your own program) to solving the problem (including a generalization of the problem via some parameterization)
Solve the problem using some application like Mathematica (WolframAlpha), Matlab, SymboLab, etc. Show the inputs and outputs (screen shots where possible). Find solutions for various parameter values, or where possible, find solutions in terms of the parameters and show how varying them affects the solution (SymboLab and Mathematica "sliders" are good for this.)
Summarize your results -- in particular, the effects of the parameters and the methods of solution.
Give any references you may have used solving the problem
