1.The War of 1812 was fought because the Americans wanted to put an end to Great Britain’s tyranny. Due to the Americans playing a neutral party and commencing trade with multiple countries, the British grew angry that they could be providing enemy nations with weapons and resources. In an act of retaliation, the British attempted to restrict the trade by seizing American ships. Not only was this successful in cutting off trade, but they also took captive the ship’s crew. This was vital to them being that they needed more manpower in order to meet the demand of their ever growing Royal Navy. Being that the Americans played a neutral party, they had no other choice but to declare war against their previous ruling nation. It would be their second fight for independence.

Despite the odds not being in favor of the Americans, they overcame and proved to be a force to be reckoned with. Having suffered many defeats during the war, the Americans were still able to “repulse British invasions in New York, Baltimore and New Orleans.” (History.com) Having succeed in such battles, a sense of American independence began to brew. This significantly changed the demeanor of America. Although we were a young republic, we were know viewed as a fighting force.

I view the attitude of the Americans after the War of 1812 as a good thing. Gaining a sense of nationalism definitely helped transpire many events that we have seen throughout history. Having the people backing up the decisions of their government showed just how strong we really were. This was merely the beginning to a country that thrived off of the people’s unity.

2.The War of 1812, was fought when the United States declared war against Great Britain. For many years, “Britain had claimed the right to intercept American ships on the high seas, seize their cargoes, and search their crews for British navy deserters” (Kennedy). Even-though, the British were in the wrong for messing with the Americans. The British would very often defend their actions as “necessary wartime measures” (Kennedy). They felt that the Americans violated their rights as a neutral and sovereign nation.

The War of 1812, was fought between 1812 and 1815, defined largely by “military incompetence and internal dissent” (Kennedy). Although the war itself had no decisive outcome, it ended with a treaty, where very few were injured or killed; none of the substantive issues that had caused the war were addressed. However, the war did serve as a turning point in the history of the young republic.  Nevertheless, the war had profound effects on American politics and national identity. And it generated a cast of new American heroes, including two future presidents. The “United States survived a second war with its former colonial ruler and in the process called forth a national effort that helped Americans from distinct regions pull closer together” (Kennedy). The war also led to the final dismemberment of the Federalists.

The demeanor of America changed greatly after the War of 1812. The United States developed in a more distinctly American fashion after the War of 1812. The Americans were more pride in their country. As well as, having a sense of nationalism, they could honestly say that they were proud to be Americans. I believe they felt like they belonged and that they stood for something. I view the attitudes of the Americans after the war as a good thing, because they been through a period of enormous change that included dramatic political innovations of state and federal constitutions as well as the surge of western settlement. The war brought people together. Also, the people saw that their government was protecting them and this is what made them so proud, because they felt wanted and needed.
