Project #62948 - Social work

Different discussion questions related to the class theoretical topic will be posted on the Discussion Board . After reading the relevant material available, students are asked to submit their thoughts and reflections as part of your assessment.  These contributions should be 750 words in total but splited into three sections of 250 words per section, and should demonstrate your attempt to understand the theoretical concepts, potential strengths and limitations for meeting service user needs, how you think the service user is viewed by this theory, personal reflections on how you relate to the theory's principles including why and how you might incorporate a specific theory into your developing practice framework.

Question 1/section 1

Payne 2014 (Modern social work theory)talks about 3 political philosophies( Empowerment, social change, and problem solving) that influence the way social work is practiced in any society. (see Chapter 1 and my notes).

Which political view do you think most influences the Australian context today?

How has this changed over time?

What external or internal factors (social, political, cultural, etc) are influencing the Australian political landscape?

(Answer this in 250 words)

Question 2/section 2

Payne (2014) has a very useful chart on page 33.  He groups the key practice theories with the 3 social work objectives (problem-solving, empowerment and social change) and identifies what the theory contributes to practice.

TASK:

Your task is to identify a theory (or 2) that is being used in your work place (that is, your field placement; or former work place; or past experience with welfare services). Explain how you see it being implemented with individual clients, groups or communities and impact or effectiveness you see it having for clients.

Question 3/section 3

However, this question we are particularly focusing on how social work has adopted and adapted psychodynamic theory into practice.  With many of you having psychology or behavioural science undergrad degrees, the content of this chapter will no doubt be very familiar, however it is important to see how social work has used this knowledge in practice.

Whatever agency we work for, and regardless of the social work role, we are constantly making psycho-social assessments of a person's well being and social functioning (mental, physical, emotional, intellectual, etc).  We are focused on how people are feeling, behaving, reacting, coping, etc, (an internal and individual focus), but we are assessing this in their social context (their home, family, relationships, community, culture, religion, economic situation, etc).  We try to help people make sense of what is happening in their lives, and to access resources (material, emotional, educational etc) to meet their needs.  Knowledge drawn from psychodynamic theory helps us to this.

Your task is to consider :

How valuable are psychodynamic concepts (like repression, parent-child relations, our unconscious, resistence, internal conflict, internal working models, regression, self-awareness, etc) in helping social worker's make assessments and plan interventions with clients?  Critically reflect on how you have experienced the value of these concepts in your interactions?

(Answer this in 250 words)

Pls use your lecture notes and Payne(2014) txt book to answer these questions, no reference is required.
