Project #63741 - Farewell to Manzanar Summary

Write an essay from the book 'Farewell to Manzanar'

Much of Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston’s memoir deals with her struggles to discover her identity. Houston’s experiences in a Japanese internment camp and the alienation she felt after returning home had a significant impact on her life. In particular, she explores how prejudice influenced her identity.

Examine how Houston’s feelings about her Japanese heritage and her American identity changed over the course of the book. How did Houston develop a sense of belonging in society after her return to mainstream American culture? Did she reconcile her self-identity in the end? How?

Your essay should be 3-5 pages. Please use Times New Roman 12 pt. font, double-space the text, and include page numbers and a title. Please format your essay with 1-inch margins and staple the pages. You should follow Chicago rules for parenthetical citations. Your essay should be written in full sentences (no bullet-points) with close attention to argument, grammar, and clarity.
