To receive credits students should:

  • –  introduction: provide context – you must start your essay by describing/summarizing the context of the

    community for the case study you've chosen which addresses the themes in the question.

  • –  summarize a peer-reviewed, academic journal article that contains empirical evidence related to the

    essay question (the research question, methodology, the results of the study (data) and the subsequent

    analysis by the researchers must be presented).

  • –  describe how the plan for the community brought about measurable results (post-postpartum).

    1) Format: (penalty of 2 points for improper format)
    In terms of format your report must fit on no more than two sheets (do not include a cover page), be typed single-spaced in 11 point arial or helvetica font with 0.5 inch margins all around. Students are encouraged to maximize use of their sheets by printing on both sides. In terms of content, students must include in the following in this order. On the first line put your last name in capital letters, followed by your first name in small letters, followed by your identification number in brackets. On the second line write the essay number (#1 or #2) as well as the course code (URBS300). The top of your paper should look exactly like this:

    LAST NAME, first name (id# in brackets) Essay #1. URBS300 short essay

    2) Content: (0.5 point for each item for a total of 1.5 points)
    The short essay must contain the information required detailed above.
    3) Empirical evidence presented: (4 points)
    The paper must go beyond making simple references to outside sources to support an argument. 4) Properly referenced material/bibliography: (1 point)
    5) Clarity and conciseness of the writing:
    a) not have any spelling and/or grammar mistakes (1 point)
    b) tighten the sentences in the body of the essay as much as possible, be succinct with short resolutions/transitions between paragraphs and avoid redundancies (2.5 points)
