Project #64177 - Strategic Staffing Plan

Much research has been conducted on the strategic function of human resources planning.  For example, consider the restructuring of a large organization to meet proposed changes in the strategic plan.  Some companies change their overall strategy more regularly (every 2-5 years) and some wait much longer.  The point is that when a company changes it strategy, human resources needs change as well.

Directions

You will create a plan for a change in the HR strategy of a fictional company.  Using the guidelines in Chapter 5 on strategic/human resources planning, develop a plan for a proposed change within this fictional company including information on the impact to the organization and it's specific organizational units, determining the skills, expertise, and number of employees that will be needed to meet the new strategy, determining if there will be any needed additional human resources requirements, and finally explaining what actions or steps will be necessary to reach the needs of this new change.  This part of the assignment could possibly be done on a table with appropriate columns and rows (like a strategic planning form format) to provide the needed information.  Likewise, it could be done in a written, executive summary-style format.  What is most important is what you determine the new procedure will be, what resources it will require, and what HR steps you will take to get your "company" there.

Then, using the library databases, find peer-reviewed articles that present information on strategic planning from the human resources perspective.  Present your research in a written assignment.  Hint: A recent search of the ProQuest database using the keywords "human resources strategy" and had a return of of more than 112,000, full-text, peer-reviewed sources.

The written component of this assignment should be a minimum of 3 full pages (not including the the title and reference pages) and be cited and formatted according to APA Style (see the APA resources included on the Modules Page).  Note that I will deduct points for not meeting the page requirement.  YOU MAY ATTACH THE FORM OR WRITTEN PLAN TO THIS WRITTEN COMPONENT, AS OPPOSED TO SUBMITTING TWO DOCUMENTS.

  • See the link to the FSW Library Research Tutorial.  Be sure to review how to find peer-reviewed (scholarly) articles.  World Wide Web articles will not be accepted [this means do not simply do a Google search for HRP articles, of course, as always, Wikipedia, About.com, Ask.com and similar sources are not acceptable for this assignment. ]
  • The paper must be written in third person.  See the “Fanslau 1st. 2nd. 3rd. Person Handout” [Provided by Professor M. Fanslau] on the Modules Page. 
  • When writing the paper, please remember that direct quotes are permitted, however, your entire paper cannot be directly quoted from another source.
  • Be sure to include page numbers and the appropriate heading in the header of the document. 
  • Twelve point, Times New Roman font is required.
  • The textbook may only be cited once in your paper as a source for this assignment
  • Carefully review your paper for spelling, grammatical, and writing style errors.  See the “Fanslau Grammar Tips Handout” [Provided by Professor M. Fanslau] on the Modules Page.
