Respond the 3 classmates answer to original discussion question.

Provide explanation on their answer.  say you agree or disagree and elaborate on your response.  YOU ARE NOT GRADING THEIR WORK RATHER REFLECTING ON IT.

#1 Respond to Victor’s answer to Original Discussion question “How do arrays and combo boxes work together? Write a small program in which you add the elements of an array to a combo box and post the code for your program.” in 200 words or more.

In a graphical user interface, a combo box provides users a list of entries from a drop down menu they can select from. A common example of a combo box is the drop down menu people use to select the state they live in when filling out an address form when making online purchases. Because the number of entries in the combo boxes may need to change in the future to accommodate new or updated options arrays provide great flexibility in adding or removing options to a combo box because you can simply direct the combo box to reference the array's contents for its list of entries. As the array is updated so are the contents of the combo box. Below is a simple example program of how this would look.

public class ComboBox extends JFrame{

     private String[] statesList = {"Maine","Texas","California","Florida","Colorado"};

     private JComboBox comboStates = new JComboBox (statesList);

     private JFrame jfWindow;

     public ComboBox(){

          jfWindow = new JFrame();

          jfWindow.add(comboStates);

          viewFrame ();

          }

     void viewFrame(){

          jfWindow.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);

          jfWindow.setVisible(true);

          jfWindow.setSize(100, 100);

          jfWindow.setLayout(new FlowLayout());

          }

     public static void main(String[] args) {

          ComboBox Box = new ComboBox();

      }

}

#2 Respond to Michelle’s answer to Original Discussion question “What are advantages of using menus in a GUI application? Design a menu structure for a program you would find useful in your work or hobbies. Write and post the code for the menu creation.” question in 200 words or more. in 200 words or more.

A menu provides a space-saving way to let a  user choose one of many different options. Menus are distinctive in that, they aren't placed with the other components in the GUI. A menu will most likely appear either in a menu bar or as a popup menu. A menu bar contains one or more menus, the menu bar is usually along the top of a window. A popup menu is a menu that is invisible until the user makes an action, like pressing the mouse button over a popup-enabled component or clicking the menu option. A popup menu then appears under the cursor in most cases.

#3 Respond to Randy’s response on Michelle’s Answer (Above in #2) to Discussion question What are advantages of using menus in a GUI application? Design a menu structure for a program you would find useful in your work or hobbies. Write and post the code for the menu creation.” in 200 words or more.

I agree with you that some menus are in the menu bar which are located in the top left hand corner of the program and pop up menus are another use of menus. Pop up menus can be annoying to the user although. For example we had to create a GUI where the picture that was on the website linked to a certain action. But if the user does not know this and clicks on the picture to either blow it up or save the picture, it would direct them to the next website or prompted a message. Pop up menus can be useful if the user knows it is there and what is for such as the click on a picture and it tells them to save the image or allow them click it to navigate to another website if they prefer. I still prefer a menu bar menu which everyone who knows how to use a simple program or website know it is in the top of the page.
