Project #67173 - MySQL

Final Project

How to Use MySQL Workbench for Data Modeling

For the course project, examine the following you-tube video for data modeling and ERR diagram with MySQL Workbench (Click HERE)  If this link does not work,  then go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ_G8N2GIfE (or click HERE; this is the same link as before). If you need more information about the use of MySQL Workbench for Data Modeling, see the chapter 8 of workbench manual (Click HERE).

Project Description

Create your own database using MySQL Workbench and describe your database using ERR diagram. Submit your report which should contain the description of your database as well as MySQL Workbench file.

You are welcome to create a database on any subjects as long as you have more than 2 tables and use of Keys.  If you do not have any specific database in your mind, please follow the instruction shown below.

Create 3 tables, one for Doctors, one for Nurses, and the last one for Patients.  For Doctors and Nurses, each entry should have an ID, date of birth, first and last names, etc. For patients, you need to have and ID and patient information like name, address etc plus insurance information. Create tables that shows how  patients, doctors, nurses  are related to each other using Keys.

The above database is just for demonstration purpose, so you do not have to have realistic & complete data. Just have sufficient data to demonstrate your knowledge of relational database using Keys. If you are interested in realistic data, for example, please see  the Common Data Elements in a PHR (Personal Health Record).

Aim of this project is in designing a database. You are welcome to populate database by entering appropriate data into tables, but “entering data” is not required for your final project. Just make sure to describe the database you created. Due to only limited time remains towards the end of semester, the discussions of final projects submitted by other students will not be required, but you are welcome to exchange any comments suggestions to your fellow classmates.
