Over the course of the semester, lectures and readings have explored a number of narratives and themes. For your final paper, pick one theme and discuss the role that topic has played in global history citing specific examples. The strongest essays will include cases from different time periods and various parts of the world.
How has trade shaped global history?
How has colonization shaped global history?
How have popular uprisings shaped global history?
How has culture played a central role in the shaping of global history?
How have changes in ideas about government and the rights of people shaped history?
How has global economic inequality shaped history?
Papers should be six-pages long (using traditional fonts such as Times New Roman, one-inch margins, and double spacing). There is no need to use sources other than those assigned for the class. References to text can be cited as (Upshur page #) and references to the document reader as (document #). You are not encouraged to use outside sources, but if you do they must be fully cited using a common citation style that indicates the author, title, date, and location of the citation. Direct quotes should always be in quotation marks.
