    Task Description:

    This assessment item involves preparing a report explaining how you might establish a classroom context to address the following goals: to foster and enable a) children as active citizens, b) children’s formation/sense of identity, and c) the provision of opportunities for children’s voices and agency.

    Criteria & Marking:

    This assessment item requires students to demonstrate they can:

    • Identify and describe physical aspects of the environment that address the identified goals; (you might consider eg what it looks like, feels like, sounds like, physical layout, access of resources, use of time)
    • Identify and explain teaching practices that address the identified goals;  (you might consider aspects of teaching approaches - Reggio Emilia, Project Approach, Discovery, Investigations, Inquiry etc and teaching techniques: scaffolding, questioning, prompting etc)  
    • Describe teacher-child relationships that address the identified goals; (consider the types of relationships:- teacher has all the power? children have all the power?  negotiation? teacher as facilitator? 
    • Explain the curriculum decision-making and planning processes that enable the identified goals; (also consider how does it happen?co-construction? negotiation?differentiation?
    • Identify and explain how assessment, monitoring and reporting will be conducted in order to address the identified goals; (consider who will decide what is assessed? how it is assessed? when? who will get/give feedback? to whom?)
    •  Explain children’s role in home/school or centre partnerships that enable addressing the identified goals; (passive or active? is the typical parent - teacher two-way interaction appropriate? is there a place for the child in this? should it be a three-way interaction?
    •  incorporate references to relevant literature (throughout the report), and use appropriate level of literacy and APA 6th referencing.
