Project #70047 - Development psyc

Viktor Frankl’s search for meaning is not an idle inquiry. It comes from his attempt to find meaning in one of the most senseless and meaningless series of acts of all places and times of this century. Frankl spent seven years in one of Hitler’s Nazi death camps. Based on his reflections during this time, Frankl came to see humans as free and responsible, but with that freedom and responsibility comes a need for meaning in life. He described humans as fulfilling three kinds of values: (1) creative values, which come through productive work; (2) experiential values, which are developed through our appreciation for beauty and pleasure; and (3) attitudinal values, which must rise above creative and experiential values, if circumstances prevent one from developing a spiritual focus.

Reflect on your own definition of spirituality.

• How have your own experiences shaped your definition of spirituality?

• Do you believe you have a spiritual life?

• If so, how do you see your own spirituality manifest in behavior?

What are some professions where human development training could be an obvious asset. Why?  How will you use your educational experience in this class in your chosen profession?  How will you use it in your current work scenario?
