Please affirm—I did not get assistance from anyone and I did not use any website for help.  (using your text book and notes are ok).  ð

Chapters 8 and 9--  please show work in detail.  I must see how you got your answers and did your work!!! I want all descriptions in “normal words” and not, I repeat not, something from google, wiki…, etc…

1)      Describe a parameter and a statistic and the difference between these things.

2)      Use the following values and show (you must show all of your work):

a.       A probability distribution

b.      A histogram

c.       The mean

d.      The variance and standard deviation

4, 3, 3, 5, 7, 2, 4, 3, 5, 9, 3, 6, 5, 3, 7, 3,

3)      A normally distributed set of scores has a mean of 120 and a standard deviation of 10.

a.       What score cuts off the top 15%?

b.       What is the probability of a randomly chosen score being between 105 and 125?

c.       What percentage of all scores are less than 100?

4)      Blood samples are taken from residents.  The probability of finding lead in the sample is 0.3.  If 10 residents are given blood tests, find The probability that:

a.       at least four of them have lead.

b.      at most seven of them have lead in their blood.

c.       exactly four have lead in their blood

d.      no more than 3 have lead in their blood.

e.      Find the mean and standard deviation.

5)      Use the following data and show a

a.       Five number summary

b.      Box and whisker plot

c.       If there are any outliers

4, 3, 3, 5, 7, 2, 4, 3, 5, 9, 3, 6, 5, 3, 7, 12

6)      Use the following (treat them as if the sample size was 30) and find the 99% CI (use s instead of s-- the calculator will give the Sx)

2, 9, 5, 6, 7,3

7)      Why did we have different formulas for finding the variance in chapters 8 and 9?  Why does the formula for the variance in a sampe have an “n-1” instead of just an “n” in a denominator?
