Project #72273 - business ethics class

The best way to address this would be to read the article that discusses this management technique in detail. I am attaching the article ("The Spy who Fired Me") with this email and placing it on the website. Consider in detail this human resources strategy taking into account both the benefits and negatives of the technique, as would a utilitarian. A variety of the ethical theories we have considered would be appropriate for the discussion but one approach would consider whether this is in accord with the standards set by Kant's second version of the categorical imperative (see Kant slides). Also relevant is the issue of how the autonomy of the workers is affected by this technique. Would any advances in productivity, if any, available by using such detailed monitoring be worth any possible limitations on worker autonomy? This last question would relate to the whether it is best to see the worker-employer relationship as merely contractual (as might be suggested by the shareholder approach or egoism) or whether there are responsibilities for mutual respect as suggested by the Kantian / stakeholder view).
