DUE JULY 11, 2015

There will be one reflective essay (~1800 words, not including references) due after reading Dewey, Freire, and Ladson-Billings. The essay should be a well-organized, academic essay that is grounded in and across the readings—using citational authority (see example). The essay should compare (i.e., highlight similarities and differences) how each respective scholar conceptualized teaching and learning and the impact of culture on teaching and learning, and how the class readings and discussions have impacted, informed, and transformed (or not) your thinking. The purpose of the essay is not to merely summarize the class readings and online discussions but to illustrate how they have influenced your thinking, including areas where you have remaining/new questions. In addition, a description of how you will use your newly acquired understandings in your teaching practices should be included.


The essay should adhere to the
Publication Manual of the America Psychological Association (APA, 6th ed.) style of writing, citation, organization, and formatting (except for Title Page; see title/header information below). A reduction of one letter grade will result in not following APA format. In other words, you must become very familiar with APA format; the format preferred by most education journals.
