Unit title(s): Examination Skills: Preparing for and Succeeding in an Examination

Unit code(s): HC7/3/LR/013

Learner:

Tutor/Assessor: Lee Roberts

Description of Assignment:

As you move through academia it is inevitable that examinations will play a large part of your life. It is the goal of this unit to assist you in preparing for these and being able to achieve a grade which matches your understanding of the topic. Your lecturer Dr Lee Roberts has asked that you prepare for an exam dated 15/05/15.

Task 1 - Before the exam

a)    Develop a suitable study plan explaining your rationale. You have been given your college time table for the year, this however only shows the times you need to be in lessons. Using spreadsheet software (MS Excel etc.) you need to create a complete study plan that includes the following:

a.    Lessons (Supervised Study)

b.    Sleep

c.     Other commitments

                                i.    Jobs

                               ii.    Volunteering

                              iii.    Picking up Children

d.    Social life

                                i.    Favourite TV Programme

                               ii.    Clubs/Societies

iii.    Anything else you like to do

e.    Independent study

f.     Revision for exam

·        You spreadsheet will need to have 25 columns and 8 rows. Label 7 of the rows with the days of the week, and 24 of the columns with hours of the day.

b)    In addition to your study plan you will need to write a short report (500 words) to explain how to use suitable learning and revision techniques that match your learning style and how these techniques allow you to effectively prepare for your exam.

This provides evidence for 1.1 and 1.2

Task 2 - During the exam

a)    Design a timeline plan to help you complete the Periodic Table, Oxidation and Reduction exam, for this exam you have 90 minutes and have to answer 10 questions

b)    Complete the exam and have a lecturer (???) sign an observation report to confirm you have done this

This provides evidence for 2.1 and 2.2

Task 3 – After the exam

In order to make sure that you can develop your approach to exams to make it the best it can you will need to be able to reflect, evaluate and analyses what went well and what needs to be changed.

You must write a short report (500 words) and reflect and evaluate on the effectiveness of your exam preparation and execution suggesting improvements for next time

This provides evidence for 3.1
