Project #7594 - Finance

A company's P/E ratio is a widely recognized analysis tool for determining if a stock is a value relative to the other firms in that industry.  This creates a significant focus on earnings reports and the fickle nature of stock markets.  Because earnings is an accounting term, estimates are required to determine net income and earnings quality comes into play in its analysis.

Please describe in your own words the limitations of focusing on earnings in relation to stock price.  If you feel it is a valuable tool please explain why. You must cite 1 credible source.

NOTE:

Content

All discussion board posts must be at least two paragraphs, 5 sentences each with an insightful response to the learning point presented by the instructor.  There must be 1 cited source for each discussion board submission.  Please include links to the websites in which you locate related materials.  You may use your text and cite it however you need an additional external source for reference.  No points will be awarded for copied work.  You must paraphrase the content you researched into your own words.

A DB response that is worthy of an A (18-20 pts) will not only meet the 2 paragraph 5 sentence requirement, but also include a reference to a publicly traded company that has dealt with the issue presented.  Yahoo.finance.com is a great website to look up investor info for USA businesses.  If you can’t locate a publicly traded company, a relevant work-related experience may be sufficient.
