Project #76059 - Social Media and Symbolic Interactionism

Essay 1: Social Media and Symbolic Interactionism Consider the following assumptions of symbolic interactionism: a person’s perception and interpretation of reality largely define how the person acts; the meaning of symbols (language included) plays a major role in human interactions; one’s self-concept is developed through interaction with others, and the feedback from others help one formulate self-concept. Relate some of these ideas to your discussion of the following questions: 1. How the users’ interpretation of reality in social media differs from their view of reality in face- to-face social interactions. 2. How “self-concept” is presented and developed in social media (consider: “Looking Glass Self”, “Impression management”). 3. How interaction between people takes place differently in the virtual and real world. Requirements: 1. As a short essay, be brief, precise, and clear about the theme. 2. Respond to the three issues (questions) with specifics (some examples). 3. Cite at least two sources (citation format can be APA or MLA or simply follow how the authors cite in the textbook). 4. Two pages (double-spaced) in length. 5. Correct grammar, clear expression, and good organization.
