Project #76818 - Role of the Teacher Essay

Rationale: Three key areas of a teacher’s role are 1) effective communication with a variety of constituents, 2) consistent application of the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct in professional and personal conduct, and 3) clear comprehension of the grounds and procedures for disciplinary actions that can be imposed by the Education Practices Commission (EPC).

Description: You will develop an essay addressing these three key areas in the role of the teacher. You will explain the appropriate differences in oral and written language used to communicate individual student data, class-wide data or school-wide data to families, to colleagues, and to the general public (FEAP (b) 1.c) . You will identify at least three professional or personal scenarios encountered in your professional experience that exemplify choices of application of ethical behavior, as defined in statute (FEAP 2.a). You will investigate the statutory grounds and procedures for disciplinary action if the behavior was not (or would not have been) appropriate. You will investigate any appeals process that may be available to the individual (FEAP 2.b).

Directions:

1.     Consult with the cooperating teacher to determine local practice in the school building and the district regarding guidelines and procedures for communicating student achievement data to students, parents, and the general public (FEAP (b) 1.c.). Use a graphic organizer to display the information.

2.     Reflect on the professional behaviors you have observed, and have personally experienced. Identify three which are specific examples of professional educators adhering to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct (FEAP 2.a.). Continue to use of your graphic organizer to display descriptions of the behaviors, and link to specifically defined ethics.

3.     For each of the three identified behaviors, investigate the statutory grounds and procedures for disciplinary action that may be imposed by the EPC in the case of a possible violation (FEAP 2.b.).  Continue to use the graphic organizer to identify the differences.

4.     Essay reflects appropriate organization and communication techniques, which includes correct spelling, grammar, syntax, and punctuation. Citations and references and presented in the proper APA format.
