As part of a long-term study of individuals 65 years of age or older, sociologists and physicians at the Reynolds Medical Center in upstate New York investigated the relationship between geographic location, health status (healthy or one or more comorbidities), and depression. Random samples of 20 healthy individuals were selected from each of three geographic locations: Florida, New York, and North Carolina. Then, every individual was given a standardized test to measure depression (higher test scores indicate higher levels of depression); see file Medical1B. Similarly, random samples of 20 individuals with one or more comorbidities (arthritis, hypertension, and /or heart ailment) were taken from the three geographic locations, and they were given the same standardized test to measure depression; see file Medical2B.

1. On both data sets compute descriptive statistics using “Descriptive Statistics” in Data Analysis of Excel; see instructions on pages 377 - 378. Assume the 95% confidence level to get the 95% margin of errors for the six population means. Analyze the most important descriptive statistics. What are your preliminary observations about the depression levels?

2. On both data sets apply Anova: Single Factor in Data Analysis of Excel at a 5% significance level; see instructions on page 594. When you state your hypotheses, define clearly the population means under study in each case.

3. If the null hypothesis in the Anova test is rejected, then apply by hand Fisher’s LSD procedure on page 565 in order to identify which population means are different; assume alpha = 0.05, and use MSE found by Anova: Single Factor.

4. Use Microsoft Word __to write a managerial report__ in which you __include your answers to all questions, and summarize your findings__. Your report should also show all relevant Excel outputs (paste them); do not use Excel outputs as attachments.
