Project #77586 - Essay

The next paper looks at the case of Mexican-Americans and the issues of immigration.  The film, My Family, looks at the various challenges of being Mexican American in Los Angeles.  Samuel Huntington's essay argues that immigration from Mexico (and other Spanish-speaking countries) is unlike any other movement in American history.  He is concerned that the "traditional values" of America will be changed because of the influx of Spanish-speaking immigrants.  Octavio Paz, on the other hand, looks at the US from a Mexican point of view.  He thinks that Mexico is less materialistic and more soulful than the US.

For you next paper, examine whether there should be one official language in the United States—that everyone must learn English in order to live in the US.  (Huntington would support this idea; Paz would not).
