COMMENTS BY INSTRUCTOR IN FILES ATTACHED! ESSAY: A religion is an organized collection of people’s belief, their cultural systems, world views that relate to human beings to an order of existence (Wull & M, 1991). Many of the world’s religions have symbols, practices, festivals and rituals that differentiate them from any other religion in the world. Islam is one of the religions of the world. It is a monotheistic religion based on the revelations that Prophet Mohammad received in the 7th- century in Saudi Arabia. Other religions in the world are Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism, and Zoroastrianism. It is an essay about religion. It will focus on the information obtained from a Muslim interviewee and their perspective on the beliefs and values of their religion. It will include their practices, festivals, and rituals. It will also focus on information obtained on the Muslim faith from valid sources to assess how different my interviewee’s information may vary from the facts about Islam. It will have a detailed conclusion after giving a personal view of Islam from the interviewee and my research. My informant holds the belief that the Quran is the flawless word of God. It is based on the belief that God (Allah) passed on his knowledge to his prophet Mohammad and other prophets to write the flawless word of his kingdom. The Quran highlights most of the aspects of the Islam culture and life. It does this through the five pillars of Islam expressed in the Holy Quran. It encourages the Muslims to pray five times a day, to fast during the holy month of Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca and declare that there is no god. However, they argue that, Mohammad is the prophet of God and that they should pay money to the poor. According to my interviewee, he holds the idea that the Quran gives a man the right to beat his wife. In Sura 4:34, he quotes that a man will have charge of their wives. If a woman is arrogant, they should be advised but if they persist, they should be forsaken in bed and finally strike them. According to my findings and research on the issue of wife-battering and the Muslim culture, it is wrong. Mohammad the Prophet once asked of how anyone would beat their wives like a stallion camel them embrace her. It was a question that was asked 1400 years ago, and it applies to all people of faith. It is, therefore, wrong to strike a woman, according to the Islam religion. If some individuals misbehave and they are affiliated with the Islam religion, it is their personal problem of indecent behaviour. Therefore, it should not be used to tarnish the image of an important world religion and the millions of those who follow it. The Quran urges the people to treat their wives with decency; it says that men should live together with women based on kindness and equity (Ali & Muhammad, 2011). The word hit has been used as the last resort to a rebellious woman rather than beat. The Surah that says this must be read entirely to avoid misinterpretation. Hit, according to the earliest commentators understood that the hitting was to be light enough not to leave a mark, and it was to be done with nothing bigger than a tooth stick. Muslims should also follow the example of Prophet Muhammad, who never even hit his wives, camel or even servants. Therefore, it is wrong to beat your wife in the Islam and any other religion. My interviewee holds the firm idea that the Islam worships Mohammad as their prophet. He believes that he has no faith or interest in the Torah books as revealed to Moses. He dismisses the gospel and says that it is the reason these books do not exist in their original forms or even in their entirety. He stands firm that Mohammad authored the Quran with Gods spirit guiding him to the end. Through research, it is wrong to say that the Quran was authored by Mohammad. It was authored by God himself and revealed to the Prophet Mohammad through angel Gabriel and written into physical forms by his companions. It is, therefore, untrue to say that the Quran was authored by Mohammad. The Muslims do not worship Mohammad nor pray through him, they worship and adore the Omniscient unseen Allah. Mohammad could not be the developer of the social, economic and political-religious system that is brought out in the Islam religion. As a matter of fact and reason, no single person could develop such system on their own. If even a community wanted to develop such on their own it would mean a lot of thinkers, philosophers, religious scholars, politicians and experts in sociology to develop such a system. It would also require hundreds of years to implement, evaluate the experiment and perfect the system. Although the Islamic teachings have been proved to be ideal for man for more than 1400 years, they are still the same teachings revealed to Mohammad in a span of like twenty years. They did not undergo the normal cycle of evolution that is characteristic of man-made laws and legislations. My interviewee holds the idea that Jesus cannot and should not be called the Son of God unless it is argued that Mary had sex with God. He believes that Jesus was substituted for another man to die on the cross and that it is not the Holy Spirit that was to replace him after death, it was Mohammad. In the Quran, Surah 19:33 states that Jesus was speaking to his mother. He said that peace was to be on that day that he was born, and also the day that he was going to die. Jesus also talks of his resurrection after death in the same Surah; he says that peace be to that day he was going to rise from the dead. It is; therefore, right to say that Jesus died even in the Islam religion. It is also wrong to say that Jesus never died on the cross. Jesus himself predicted his death as it is seen even in the Quran, this would greatly show that Jesus died on the cross. If Jesus talked about his imminent death and God rescued it from him from it, then it would mean that he is a false Prophet. It would be because the predictions fail to come true and would contradict the Quran which refers to Jesus as a real prophet. In conclusion, it is imminent in my research and interview that the Islam religion has many ideas and practices that need a lot of clarification and understanding. In my opinion, it is right to say that no one is supposed to fight their wives with the idea of religion behind their minds. It is wrong and not according to any reasonable religious practices especially Islam. Jesus defeated death, and there is no point in saying that His death did not happen since he predicted about it. Mohammad did not write the Quran. He was inspired by the spirit of Allah to write every word in it alongside other true prophets of Allah. Muslims do not also worship Mohammad; they worship Allah the True Omniscient God.   References Ali, & Muhammad, M. (2011). Holy Quran. Lahore: Ahmadiyya Anjuman. Wull, & M, D. (1991).
