Problem Statement:  For Douglas County Health Center (DCHC) to be fully informed about the effectiveness and efficiency of electronic medical records (EHR), it is importance that one must do diligent research and examine whether an electronic medical records (EHR) reduces healthcare costs, increases cost-savings, increases healthcare accessibility for patients and families, improves the overall healthcare delivery, and last but not least, provides effective and efficient healthcare.

Purpose Statement: The purpose of this study is to examine the overall health information technology (electronic health records) at Douglas County Health Center. It focuses on its benefits, costs, and barriers, as well as overall patients’ outcomes impacted by the implementation of EHR system. The paper further examines the healthcare-related security breach which has been steadily increasing as a result of more emphasis on HIT systems integration. The study explicitly explores whether there is a correlation between electronic health records and an increase in patient quality of care. The paper further examines whether there is relationship between the use of electronic health records and an increase in a healthcare-related security breach…can implementing electronic health records do more harms than goods?

Research Question:  What are pros and cons of implementing electronic health records? What available health information technology resources are definite for Douglas County Health Center with regards to patient population? How will adopting electronic health records improve Douglas County Health Center’s ability to provide quality healthcare for its patients while improving the overall cost-savings?  Is it feasible that an electronic health records increases cost-savings, increases healthcare accessibility for patient and families, and improves the quality of healthcare, or is it the other way around?  If in fact there is potential increased in patient privacy breach as it may be caused by the emergence use of electronic health records that the adoption of electronic health records increased patient privacy breach;  Is Douglas County Health Center prepared enough to protect patient sensitive information by all course?  Last but not least, what resources are available to help the organization recruit highly skilled health information technology experts in order to meaningfully benefit from the EHR system?

Hypothesis:    (a) There is a correlation between electronic health records and patient quality of care. (b) There is a relationship between the use of electronic health records and an increase in patient privacy breach (c) There is no correlation between electronic health records and patient quality of care. (d) There is no relationship between the use of electronic health records and an increase in patient privacy breach.

What makes this a good hypothesis?

Important Notes-Section 3

a. For research design/methodology section, for this project and the paper, it needs more detail and specifics as to what you will do. More specifics as to who you will be contacting, what information you will be gathering, how you will collect it, when you will do it, and how you will analyze it.  Think of it this way:  If someone were to come to you with a project proposal that would cost a bunch of money, what specifics would you want?  How would you want them to describe the project?  What information would you need before you approved it?

b. Sampling methods and description of the sample, please increase the sample size to 30 percent of the total population of nursing in Douglas County Health Center. Use the previous assignment # 78058

c. For Variable and measurement Section, more details on what specifically the variables are that you are collecting, how, by whom, and how they will be analyzed.  What specifically are the independent variables?  How will you collect it?  What specifically are the dependent variables?  Are each of them nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio?  Which will you compare, and how?  Are you looking for correlations? , etc. Use previous assignment # 78539
