Business Intelligence (BI) can help organizations make better decisions at the operational level, tactical level, and the strategic level. First, decision making at the operational level entails predetermined decisions through procedures and policies, and also independent decision making. Next, some of the decisions made at the tactical level include marketing plans, product development, and departmental budgets retrieved through weekly or monthly reports. And finally, decisions made at the strategic level are typically made by higher level executives to determine what changes to make that would greatly affect an organization such as adding another location or expanding the current location. BI can include information such as customer information, suppliers, employees, financial transactions, and inventory which help organizations improve on their decision making at all levels (Wallace, 2013).

Dashboards are graphical user interfaces that aid in decision making by combing through the vast amount of data gathered using key performance indicators (KPIs), thus providing the intended user with the information needed for that department in a relevant, timely, and useful manner (Wallace, 2013).

Business Intelligence is everywhere.  From how many parts to stock in an inventory, to how to market a certain shampoo.  Corporations are as a whole responsible for the decision-making and by using what information you have to assist you is essential.  From Operational, to Tactical, to Strategic, BI is involved in some way shape or form.  According to our text the element that hurts businesses the most is not too little information, but too much.  By breaking down the different groups like this we can see what sector handles what and filters out all the unnecessary information. A dashboard will be very beneficial in the decision making process because when you can see what steps are completed and the work done, what’s next, who’s working on it, it all ties together to make any decision a more efficient one.  Not only by having that graphic interface, but by having the information stored and accessible in one spot.
