Project #80682 - Analyzing Organizations

Introduction

Organizations may face a variety of different types of crises throughout their lifetime. Some of these may involve the distribution of products of services. Others may involve more serious implications such as safety, product failures, and other potentially harmful effects. Whatever the crisis, it is likely to have implications for the organization's public perceptions. It will also probably affect the organization's operations, finances, and perhaps even its very existence. An organizational crisis in which the entity itself may soon cease to exist deserves closer examination. In this assignment you will take a look at this type of crisis, investigating the cause, culture, and communication patterns that contributed to the outcome of the crisis.

The tragic events of September 11, 2001 represented a crisis of enormous proportions for many people and organizations, including the airline industry. Airlines struggled to recover following the wake of the disaster, and competing airlines used differing strategies to speed their recovery and respond to the crisis. This event gives a lens through which you can analyze an organizational crisis.
