Project #80688 - Listening (Paper and precise intrustion related on how to do the assigment)

Listening

The process by which people communicate is a circular process in which a sender codes a message transmitted via a channel to a receiver who decodes the message and who then becomes a sender coding a message transmitted via a channel to a decoding receiver who then … . The main role of the receiver is to listen. However, listening is easier said then done. Even thought it seems like the most natural activity in the world, listening is fraught with problems, the least of which is people’s accent. Indeed, sharing a common language is no guarantee of facility if the sender’s accent differs from the receiver’s accent. Listen for 21 accents on this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UgpfSp2t6k&feature=related

In this assignment, students will write a one– to two–page paper essay on other problems beside accents that the receiver might experience when attempting to listen to the sender. In a first paragraph, students will define the concept of “listening.” They will introduce the concept with a quoted definition (presented in the proper MLA or APA style of citations1 ), and they will explain, in their own words, how the listening process would work in a business situation. They can use any “published” resources in existence (textbooks, books, articles, web pages, dictionaries, or encyclopedias — online or on paper, including Wikipedia) as the foundation for their answer. In a second paragraph, students will identify one problem a receiver might experience while listening (but NOT accent), explain the problem, give an example of the problem in a business situation (real or invented), and offer a solution for the problem. In a third paragraph, students will identify and explain three characteristics of ineffective listeners (as described in their textbook) in a business situation and suggest a way a listener could eliminate these three problems. In a concluding (fourth) paragraph, students will summarize what they have learned about the process of listening in business situations.
