Project #81705 - Plan A vs. Plan B

Introduction

Even if you know exactly where you want to end up with your career, there is more than one way to get there. It is beneficial to not only consider your end career goals, but to research what entry level positions will provide the experience you need to get there. Comparing different career options will help you find the job that is the best fit for you and can mean the difference between suffering to gain the necessary experience, and actually enjoying the work you do.

Instructions

Previously you developed a Career Plan A and B. For this assignment you will create a presentation that summarizes the two positions you selected. In addition, you will also research and summarize two related entry-level positions or jobs that would help prepare you for your desired career position. For each job you should include, but are not limited to, the following details:

  • Job Title and Description
  • Required education and experience
  • Starting Salary and Potential for pay increases
  • Domiciles
  • Work Schedule vs. Time off
  • Benefits and Perks
  • Quality of life
  • Upward mobility/Progression
  • Retirement

Researching a number of different career options will help you get a better feel for what you actually want to end up doing. And it will also help you understand what skills and knowledge you need to get there.

Keep in mind that this assignment isn’t just about your own career. You are being asked to create a presentation that will help all of your classmates as well. Please put in the extra time and effort to make a good presentation.

Grade

The main point of this assignment is to provide the class with information on careers they may not have previously considered. You will be scored according to the following:

  • 4 Positions (80 points) – Make sure to include a detailed summary of at least 4 different positions. You should cover the two career positions you previously submitted and each should be accompanied by an entry-level position.
  • Quality Presentation (10 points) – Your classmates and your instructor will thank you for taking the time to make a good (read, not boring) presentation. This can be accomplished in many different ways. Please feel free to be creative, but make sure to keep it brief and present your information clearly. That includes appropriate citations, spelling, and grammar throughout.
  • Personal Input (10 points) - Include your own impressions about each position. Are you still excited about your career choices or has your research changed your mind? Many of you may have already spent time working in some of the positions you are describing, what personal insight can you provide to help your classmates? Keep this in mind as you read other posts. You might be able to post a helpful reply.
