1. Provide an overview of the issue for your readers (What topic is being discussed? What are the most important factors in or elements of the discussion? Who is impacted by discussions about the topic?)

2. Summarize and describe each article. In your descriptions, summarize the key points and describe the rhetorical situations (Who is the writer; why is s/he writing; and for whom is s/he writing?)

3. Explain how the writer’s arguments intersect with and/or oppose each other. Consider the following when brainstorming for this part of your essay:

• What would the writers agree and/or disagree on?

• How might each writer respond to the other?

• Would either or both of the writers find gaps in the other’s argument or findings? Might either of the writers be convinced by parts of the other’s argument or findings? IMPORTANT NOTE: As you write, keep in mind that you are not arguing for or against the

• This essay must be 3.5 typed pages minimum. There is no maximum page limit for this assignment.

• Use 12 pt. Times New Roman or Calibri font; double space your essay; and include your name, the course number, the assignment (Project 1), and the assignment due date on the first page. See Research Matters for additional information about MLA formatting guidelines.

• Use MLA citation guidelines* to cite your sources in-text and on a works cited page. The works cited page does not count as one of your 3.5 pages! •

You will be submitting 2 documents for Project 1: Project 1 and your outline. Project 1 must be submitted with a .doc, .docx, or .pdf extension.
