Project #82379 - Qualitative Methods

The most common qualitative research designs in social science research include:

  • Case Study
  • Ethnography
  • Phenomenology
  • Grounded Theory

Each of these methods can be drilled down further.  For example, there are multiple types of phenomenological designs (empirical, interpretive, hermeneutic, transcendental, Husserlian, among others), and multiple types of case study designs (narrative, evaluative, descriptive, and exploratory, among others).

Complete the Qualitative Research Methods Matrix according to the following guidelines:

  1. List the primary characteristics of each design
  2. Locate a current peer-reviewed article (within the past  5 years) in your field that demonstrates each methodology
  3. Explain the following for each article:
    1. The problem investigated
    2. How data were collected and analyzed
    3. The trustworthiness of the data
    4. The key findings
    5. The transferability of the findings

Format your matrix consistent with APA guidelines.
