Project #82962 - African American Study

There remains a widespread perception in the west that there have been no meaningful civilizations in Africa, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa. Even when both scholars and lay people speak about African civilizations, the discussion centers around the Egyptian civilization, and in such a way that Egypt is not part of Africa. Based on my discussion (see video clip) with Professor Adeleke, the textbook, and the reading assignments for this week, please see if you can critically discuss why this general perception continues to dominate our image of Africa. Is it true that there have been no civilization in Black Africa, or there are other reasons that inform this perception? Please be sure to participate as often as possible in the forum and make sure to consult with the Rubric. A significant portion of your grade will come from frequency and quality of participation.
