# Project #8369 - math

1)   If the wind speed at height = 10 m is 10 m/s, calculate the wind speed at

a)    60 m

b)   80 m

c)    100 m

(Assume a power law over land with exponent = 1/7 ≈ 0.143)

2)   Do the corresponding calculations with a power law over the ocean which has its exponent = 0.11

3)   Inverse problem: If the wind speed at 10 m is 10 m/s and the wind speed at 200 m is 15 m/s, calculate the power law exponent (hint: use logarithms)

4)   What is the power per unit area in the wind if the air density is 0.99 kg m-3 and the wind speed is 10 m/s. Which factor in the formula is more important? Why?

5)    What is the power per unit area in the wind at the tropopause level, where the jet stream is? Use in your calculations typical values for air density and wind speed given in the lectures (you can also use Google to find those typical values).
