1. What is a personality disorder? How does it differ from normal personality?

According to Heffner, a personality disorder is a pattern of defective thinking, feeling and behaving and that has been occurring for a long duration of time that has been constant to the individual and goes against the norms of the culture. The effects of these thoughts, feelings and behaviors have negative outcomes regarding this person’s lifestyle (2014). A normal personality functions well. A person with a personality disorder has difficulties with the functions that people who do not have a personality disorder.

Select any personality disorder from the three clusters mentioned in your reading and provide a fictional example of the disorder.Fully explain your example.

I chose Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. According to Heffner it is where individual has the mindset that is obsessed with things being done specific way that meets their requirements, with cleanliness, perfection and what they can control (2014).

I think of people who are controlling in relationships, especially guys. A boyfriend with OCPD could have a problem with his girlfriend to hugging, spending time with or even talking to other guys and it might not be limited to just other guys or could even be friends and family! He wants to be in control who she is with.

What is the relationship between the "Big 5" and personality disorders?

According to Crego and Widiger, personality disorders are simply personality traits that have in ways been impaired or have caused distress upon and individual. Personality traits are comprised in being apart of the big 5 (2014). So a personality disorder is a damaged personality trait that causes someone to not be able to function normally within their respective culture.

2. 1.) What is a personality disorder? How does it differ from normal personality?

1a.)Lets first understand what a personality disorder is, from my understanding a personality disorder it is a mental disorder. Which means a person who suffers from what is to be consider damaging or in this case we can say different pattern of thinking, acting, or the way they operate as a whole. Paired with that this causes problems in relationships, at work, home and etc. Which turns into causing problems in social interacting. When it comes to ways that it can differ from a normal personality is when you are describing a person nine times out of ten you are describing their personality. So with that being said a personality is built around are senses and how we experiences things. Which in turn is connected to are emotions and are behaviors, which become a person’s personality as a whole. So if something is off when it comes to how you act, think, or how you operate as person. Then that is how a personality disorder can differ from a normal personality.

2.)Select any personality disorder from the three clusters mentioned in your reading and provide a fictional example of the disorder.Fully explain your example.

2a.)I decided to go with Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder. People with this disorder tend to feel the need to check things constantly. Or they tend to do things in a certain routine over and over again. Some people can even deal with needing have items in order or everything needs to have a certain uniformity to it. For example it was this guy I use to work with had a huge problem with germs. It was so serious that he wouldn’t give out hand shakes, unless it was are supervisor other then that no one else would get shake his hand. Even then he made sure he used hand sanitizer right after they shook hands. He also took pride in having is workspace very neat and tidy. Everything had a certain place even down to his pens and paper clips.

3.)What is the relationship between the "Big 5" and personality disorders?

3a.)To me it seems that the Big 5 is the base of personality disorders, or should I say the main hub of the disorders. And what I mean when I say is that the Big 5 have provided us with the bases of known the five factors. That play different parts in each personality disorders.
